Brennan Manning, "Christainity is..."
"Christianity is not primarily a moral code but a grace-laden mystery;
it is not essentially a philosphy of love but a love affair;
it is not keeping rules with clenched fists but receiveing a gift with open hands".
Brennan Manning, The Ragamuffin Gospel.
Author, friar, priest, contemplative and speaker.
He started life in New York City. When old enough he enlisted in the US Marine Corps, where he fought in Korea. Manning was later ordained to the Franciscan priesthood. In the late 1960s, Manning joined a religious order committed to life among the poor. Manning then spent time diversely, transporting water via donkey, as a mason's assistant, a dishwasher in France, a prisoner in a Swiss jail (by choice), and spending six months in a remote cave somewhere in the Zaragoza desert. In the 1970s, Manning returned to the US and began writing after falling into, and climbing out of, alcoholism.
"The Greatest single cause of Atheism in the world today are Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable".
