We’re honoured to have such a close link with Woodchurch Church of England High School. We provide the Chaplaincy Team for the school, Malcolm, our Senior Youth Worker, Becca, Rachel (Youth Development Workers) and Steph (our Curate) make up the team. Other volunteers help us out throughout the year, filming our Collective Worship videos, meeting students one to one for individual support.
This year we have started the year by recounting the school’s vision and how it is linked to the values. The vision statement is taken from the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:16 Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
The school’s Christian values are all values inspired and embodied by Jesus. The values are; Humility, Justice, Compassion, Thankfulness, Hope, Wisdom, Trust, Service, Forgiveness, Integrity and Endurance.
Christian Values Representatives are chosen at the start of each academic year. Their role is to embody and exemplify these values and act as representatives of the Chaplaincy team in their forms and year groups.
Collective Worship in School
As a Chaplaincy team we provide a Collective Act of Worship which is a short time of reflection and worship for every class every day.
At the start of each month the Collective Worship focuses on the value of the month. Every week there is a new topic for Collective Worship and there is a different activity to do every day. A week’s Collective Worship during form time might look something like this;
MONDAY – Watch Collective Worship Video
TUESDAY – Open class discussion about issues raised by video
WEDNESDAY – Whole year assembly with talk from Chaplaincy team
THURSDAY – Group discussion about relevant Bible passage, answering questions about the passage
FRIDAY – Prayer
On Mondays Malcolm will introduce the week’s topic to the Staff during the morning’s staff briefing. This helps Form Teachers to feel equipped and informed before they facilitate discussion.
