Here you’ll be able to read through our recent Eco Encouragements from the St Mary’s Eco Group. Our Eco Group helps steer us, as a church and individuals, to think and act more considerately towards the earth. If you have ideas to help us care for our world we’d love to hear from you so please do get in touch.

Our Recent Eco Encouragements
January 2021
At the start of a new month in what we hope and pray will be a better New Year, we can all make some simple New Year Resolutions, as a church and as individuals: Reduce our energy use, setting ourselves targets; reduce energy loss through doors and windows; offset where we can; capture carbon by planting additional trees; reduce, reuse and recycle all our resources; measure our carbon footprint; think about how we travel and how far we go, using public transport where possible and car shares where not; shop locally; think about buying an electric or hybrid car; connect with and protect nature. Thus we can help build back better and work together towards a very happy new year.
December 2020
As the Christmas lights go up and the nights draw in we have another Eco Encouragement for you, from our Eco Group here at St Mary’s. We can only care for God’s Creation and the environment around us by working together. We have been fortunate to receive a grant from the “Wirral Together” programme to help fund eco-activities for the local community.
A project called “Together in Upton” will be organised by the St Mary’s Eco Group and the Centre, as restrictions ease. This includes the purchase of two gazebos, to enable us to host ‘Pop Up’ activities. Until then, we will provide materials for planting activities for Preschool settings around the Village.
November 2020
As we enter another national lockdown we are lucky to have such a variety of types of countryside on Wirral to explore on foot and by bike. Why not try a walk in our local Upton Meadow before the beautiful autumn colours of the trees and shrubs disappear? The Meadow is one of the few remaining semi-natural areas of open space in Upton. Being there is a real tonic for mental, spiritual and physical health. The walk can be extended into Arrowe Country Park or to Irby for those who would like to explore further.
