Young People at St Mary’s
A number of groups run in the Parish Church building on Church Road and in The Bank on Ford Road for young people in Years 6 to 13.
For more information about any of these groups, contact a member of the 0-18s Team at the church office on 0151 677 1186 or email cyp@stm-upton.org.uk.
Year 6 Club takes place after school in The Bank on Tuesdays until 5pm. It runs in the summer term as a transition group to settle year 6s into The Bank and help them discover that it is a great place to hang out with your friends. Year 6s must be booked in before they can attend – drop us an email to find out more (cyp@stm-upton.org.uk).
Drop-In Sessions take place after school in The Bank on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until 5:15pm. The Bank is a great place to hang out with your friends and has a pool table, coffee bar/kitchenette and music studio. Pop in and say hi – for the whole session or just for part of it, we’d love to see you!
Treading The Boards Youth Theatre Company meets in the Parish Church building on Tuesday evenings. We’re in the final throes of rehearsals for this year’s show, Beauty and the Beast, which will be performed at The Little Theatre, Birkenhead, from 14th to 18th October 2025. If you’re in Year 6 to 13 and would like to be involved with our next show, on stage or off stage, drop us an email (cyp@stm-upton.org.uk) and we’ll be in touch.
School of Rock is a club for budding musicians that runs alongside our after-school drop-in sessions. Young people receive individual tuition in their chosen instrument, and form bands and rehearse towards our various performance opportunities.
If you’d like to join in with our School of Rock activities, please send us an email to register your interest (cyp@stm-upton.org.uk), or pop in to one of our after-school drop-in sessions.
MELT is our young leaders programme for those in Year 12. Young leaders enrol annually in autumn and are contacted directly for when sessions take place. Our Melt Team put together all kinds of fantastic events and activities during their year… the next one will be a fundraising bistro. Drop us an email to find out more (cyp@stm-upton.org.uk).
In the February half-term we all head to The Quinta for a fun-filled week with team activities led by our MELT young leaders, plus plenty of other games, challenges, fun in the pool and time with friends. Drop us an email to find out more (cyp@stm-upton.org.uk).
In the summer we love to join in with the Keswick Convention, and each year we take a group of young people up to the Lake Disctrict for a week. We take part in the Convention’s youth programme in the mornings, and in the afternoons we explore the lovely surroundings in and around Keswick. Drop us an email to find out more (cyp@stm-upton.org.uk).
